Course Outline

This one-year course will equip learners with the relevant knowledge and experience to work as a pharmacy counter assistant or pursue a pharmacy technician qualification in the future. From over-the-counter sales, helping clients choose medical aids and appliances to demonstrating and selling products.

This course will also focus on a range of health related subjects relevant to employment as a Pharmacy Assistant. Work Experience is within a retail pharmacy where, as a Pharmacy Assistant, you can work as part of a team of health professionals in order to help customers achieve the best possible health outcome.

The emphasis will be on providing learners with specialist knowledge on over-the-counter medicines, beauty products, nutrition, customer services and retail selling.

€175 Student Services Fee applies to all learners.

Work Experience

Work experience takes place one day per week throughout the academic year in relevant work environments.

Special Features

Regular speakers in the customer service, recruitment and general administration vocational areas give invaluable knowledge about the skills essential in this area and secure employment. Computer Software used during training includes Microsoft Applications, Payroll and accounting packages.

Entry Requirements

QQI Level 4, minimum of 17 years of age at time of registration, Leaving Certificate/Leaving Certificate Applied, Equivalent qualifications from other countries, relevant life experiences, relevant work experiences and mature students.

Opportunities open to students who did not achieve the desired Leaving Certificate to allow entry to your desired course from the CAO system, you can have the opportunity to achieve up to 390 points in a PLC course and gain access to 3rd Level or for mature students who did not complete a Leaving Certificate to gain access to 3rd Level.
